Salinas Sets the trend for 2009

When it comes to cutting-edge, high-fashion swimwear with a playful twist, fashionistas and celebrities alike count on Salinas for the hottest swimwear designs in the industry.

This summer at the Miami Swimwear Show in July, we got a bird’s eye view of Salina’s stylish swimsuit fashions that likely set the trend here in sexy South Beach and at other metropolitan beach destinations around the globe.

We’re excited about the Salinas 2009 Collection! The brand has gotten back to a theme of youthful, bright prints with a lot of detail. The feel is young yet Sophisticated at the same time.

While incorporating new elements, Salinas stays true to their signature styles — creating hip, mismatchy and in-the-moment suits that embody the perfect blend of upscale chicness.

Despi Swimwear: One to Watch

Remember the song the girl from Ipanema? She’s Brazilian, beautiful and bikini-clad. And we finally found her at the Miami Swim Show in Miami Beach sporting a striking Despi, tunnel Bandeau bikini top with an adorable Boy Short bikini bottom in tangerine and lavender print.

How can you not love this drop-dead gorgeous two piece Designed by Despina Filios who makes her swimwear inRio de JaneiroDespi was recently named “the new face of beach fashion” by the Brazilian Press. And with stand-out swimsuits like this one, it’s hardly any wonder.

We were excited by what we saw. The Despi 2009 collection captures the spirit and soul of Brazil in its many pieces. We saw bold hues with playful polka dots, strong solids mixed with retro stripes and mod prints, carnival-themed colors with just enough glitter to glam it up, frilly tops and skirtinis and rectangular-shaped and oval hardware detail adorning bikini bottoms and tops.

Bikini Watch: Mix-n-Match in 2009

Don’t throw away those mismatched tops and bottoms! It’s finally in vogue to match just about any swimsuit top with a different bottom.

Gone are the days when Solid bikini tops could only go with solid bottoms. Striped tops went with striped bottoms… and solids with solids, prints with prints. No more! For that matter, say goodbye to buying bikini “sets” and welcome a whole new world of bikini freedom where it’s tres chic to pair unconventional and unlikely separates together.

We loved the look of this Lisa Lozano two piece that we saw at the 2009 Miami Swim Show at the Miami Convention Center. The model is wearing a soft pink striped crochet halter with a solid chocolate bottom. And check out singer Rihanna on the beach in this uber-mod, contrasting two piece. She’s striking in a safari-print Bandeau top and a gold-printed hipster bottom.

So what’s the rule on matching seemingly mismatched swimwear separates? We say, if it feels good, wear it. Pair floral print bikini tops with zig-zag bottoms, or pair checkered bottoms with wild stripes. The greater the contrast, the hotter the look!
