This year Guess has outdone itself with their new line of swimwear. Each piece is unique and when wearing one of these, the sun will not be the hottest thing out on the beach that day. Guess still has the bikini that we all know and love, these are ranging from polka dot print to safrai print ). However, the new look is ravishing. Guess Swimwear now has three options to choose from for a monokini, the newest trend. The Goddess Monokini is complete glamour yet with a sexy side. If being seen is not what you want this year at the beach, Guess still has some adorable suits to choose from. The Golden Girl Bikini is a simple, priceless piece that will last the stand of time. And for those who are enormous Charlie Angel’s fans, Guess has the Good as Gold bikini inspired the Angels.

All in all, Guess has some amazing swimwear for this year, from simply sexy to ravishing goddess, its all there.

Wave of Cool – Ondademar Spring 2010

Ondademar means “ocean wave” in Spanish and these designs are doing just that, rippling through the ocean clinging to their luxury swimwear clients. Their Spring 2010 line was shot for Sports Illustrated in none other than The Maldives. Yes, celebrities wear this brand too. Ondademar Swimwear makes swimwear suits for the woman going to a resort or who resort hops all summer long. They are distinguished and a bit on the traditional side of things, but don’t worry. Some of those traditional pieces are just that because they are tried and true. The shell and starfish pattern Onda uses is cute, but there are the use of glowing colors, almost neon bright that set a tan off so well.

There are the tasteful use of pinks and polka dots I was not expecting but I really like. They also have a ton of accessories for the beach that I’m just crazy about, including some of their beach tunics in white. So refined. Just a little anecdote. Once in Puerto Rico the coolest swimsuit I could spot was a two piece zip up number that a mature European woman was wearing, she looked like an ex-Surf board model and of course when I asked where her swim suit was from she said with perfect Spanish accent.

The designer, Luli Fama, is Cuban but the designs are 100% Miami. With the eclectic mix of patterns, prints and textiles that remind one of a Latin fusion dish. Colors in Luli Fama swimwear designs are clearly drawn from an array of popsicle samples or from tropical drinks. Bright colors that are honest, not a neon trend in sight. Fruit and flowers inspired these colors which maintain their fiesta attitude and do recall the 80s, but with restraint. Classic patters like afghan inspired zig-zags and Paisley for the boho choices, Animal Print for the sexy choices and many embellishments. Jewels, beads, metal rings instead of straps, none of these are really meant to be wild and natural pieces, they’re just supposed to recall the steamy rain forest and cool waterfalls of the tropics.

Now why is it that when Guess swimwear makes anything is has such wide appeal? Well, you could say that it’s because it is a fixture of American fashion and it’s been around, as such, for quite some time. I disagree. There is a way in which Guess has found a balance between producing garments that are stylish and ones that are quite a bit sexy. This is a brand with confidence and flirt. Not in an expected way. Their swimwear is more grown-up and while some people might call it “safe” I think that there is a matured sex-appeal that makes Guess young and empowered without seeming too stiff. Patterns abound. From animal to floral, Guess who’s got it. If you have any doubts about how cute and provocative their line of swimwear is just take a look at their tribal inspired One Piece cut-out bathing suit. Makes me want to slip it on and ditch my French tutor for a day at the pool.

I always wondered why the song about the dawning of the age of Aquarius was from a musical about the 60′s when the Age of Aquarius is now. Well they were just so ready for the future, I guess. Having grown up on this side of the century, I kind of feel a little out of the loop. Thankfully Lucky is taking us back. Flower child, retro, funky, peace and Love are all things I expect from Dead Heads and from… you guessed it, Lucky Brand Spring 2010 swimwear choices. My favorite is the scalloped brown swimsuit that would set off a deep tan in a very chill way, man. The blue Tie Dye pieces are remarkably cute, there is even this one with a skirted bottom that’s reminiscent of a poster for Woodstock with a peace sign and a bird. It’s very environmentally aware.
